University Application Process: "But I was so sure", Royal Holloway Applicant Day
In the next part of my series looking back at my university application diary, I visit Royal Holloway for their applicant day, and get all confused about whether I should put it as my firm or insurance choice, as well as whether I should audition for their choir or not!
(As always, X refers to the university I actually attend.)

If you had told me a few days ago that I would consider taking my unconditional from Royal Holloway then I would have thought you were nuts 😂
And yet here I am in that position the evening of my Applicant Day at Royal Holloway (oo poet and didn't know it haha).
The day started off with introducing my brother to the college and FOUNDERS (I feel like a fanfare should be playing at the sound of the 19th century building's name haha *hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hall-e-aey-lu-jah!!* ) building in the centre of campus, walking up the old stone staircase to the beautiful dorm rooms decked out in dark wood furniture. Oh how beautiful their main accommodation is! My brother was in awe and, as always, so was I, dreaming of the life I could have there (if I didn't love the X course so much and they did the Egyptians as part of their ancient history section of the course!). However, I soon found out that you don't specify an accommodation building on the accommodation application form but the type of room you would like, which meant that getting Founders was less likely and I was slightly more put off R.H. I also wondered if I shouldn't put it as my insurance (even though I have to as its my only course with the same (lowest) grades as X.) Anyways, we continued with a campus tour in the great British rain and had their brunch menu at the canteen at the edge of campus with the newer (and less nice) accommodation.
Into the afternoon and I had a 2-1 meeting with world renowned Spanish Civil War lecturer, Professor Helen Graham which was a unique touch to an applicant day. That was followed by a talk and two sample lectures (on the history of medicine -the plague to be exact- and the debate surrounding the reason for the fall of Rome).
During question time we asked about choral scholarships - which we had been reminded about, having noticed it in a leaflet in the chapel. We then went on a quick race to find someone to talk to about it (as everyone was clearing up) and found out that as a Choral scholar you live with the other scholars on the fifth floor of Founders for all 3 years!!!!
Oh.My.Gosh.
Basically that sold the idea of doing a choral scholarship at Royal Holloway to me instantly (Founders for 3 YEARS! Instant group of people to get to know, travelling on tour abroad, recording music!!!) and is why I am now in a muddle as I am now considering taking my unconditional-if-firm-choice offer!! But only if I get the scholarship mind!

However, the deadline is next Friday and I have mocks taking up my time and the only time I have to talk to my choir master about it is the evening before! So all is waiting in the balance to see if I can have an extension on the deadline date and if my choir master has the time to help me prepare for a potential audition etc 😱😱😱😱 (let's not go into the idea of auditions - I cried so much the last time I had to do a solo - in front of one person for my RSCM Bronze Bishop Award haha- maybe I haven't thought this through...)
Anyways, that was my day. I'm interested to see how this one pans out and what my thoughts are post X Applicant day next month (which will be post audition if I get one ahhhhhhh!)
