So today I am coming at you with a goes-with-everything sparkly bronze smokey eye. The neutrality of the eye means that any lip will go with it, so it can go with any dress colour. Furthermore, the technique I am teaching today can be adapted to any colour palette, it's basically a smokey eye how-to and prom tutorial in one!
What you'll need:
3 shadows - a matte light and dark shade and a glittery shadow all of the same colour. I have gone with a brown/bronze palette, but this can be adapted to any colour (i.e. for a classic black smokey eye, use black, grey and sparkly silver shadows).
Step 1) Light shadow
Using a fluffy, blending brush (such as the Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush), apply through the crease in a windscreen wiper motion.
Step 2) Dark Shadow
Apply the dark shadow onto the outer third/v of the eye. Either apply with a small blending brush for precision, or apply first with a small flat brush such as the Real Technique Accent Brush, before blending out with a larger blending brush (such as the one used to apply the first shadow). Also apply to the crease, pointing your blending brush upwards so it applies to the top of the crease/bottom of the brow bone, as well as on the outer 1/2 of the lower lash line with the same small flat brush, connecting the shadow to the top lid's shadow on the outer corner.
If you like simple looks, you could actually finish here, add some mascara and go on to your regular base makeup!
Step 3) Glitter Shadow
First apply eyeshadow primer to the inner 2/3 of the lid to intensify the glitter shadow. Then, using a flat shadow brush or your finger, pack the glitter shadow over the primer. I took it round the inner corner and on the inner half of the lower lash line until it met the dark shadow on the outer 1/2 of the lower lash line. This is to intensify the look and close the eye slightly, darkening it and making it look more smokey. Finish by building up the darkest shadow and glitter shadow to your preferred intensity. To intensify further, apply brown or black pencil eyeliner to your waterline.
Finish off with your normal face makeup routine. For the cheeks, I opted for a bronzer over a blusher as I felt a pink cheek would clash with the bronze eye, while a bronzer would pull it together. I also went for a matte finish to the skin because, not only does it generally work better in pictures, but it brings more attention to the glitter on the lids. I went for a matte-ish lip for the same reason.

I didn't use primer cause I was taking it off as soon as I was done, and my normal one (the NYX Born to Glow Illuminating Primer) probably isn't the most photograph friendly)...

- A mix of an old H&M red lipstick and Estee Lauder's Pure Color Lipstick in 48. Hot Kiss to tone it down as the lipstick was too bright for the eye.
