Get the Look: Meghan Markle's Wedding Makeup
May 25, 2018It's been sooooooo long since I've done a make up look on this blog, and boy have I missed it! So what a better opportunity to grab my brushes once again (now I've finally washed them) than to recreate the stunning look that Daniel Martin did for Meghan Markle's wedding last week. I mean, it was so simplistic and NATURAL! Her skin was just glowing and almost like there was a glass film over her natural skin, just ugh! I could go on about her skin for years! Paired with a smokey eye, Martin talked about how the makeup aimed to not take away focus from the simple elegance of her gown, in this gem of an article from Elle, and it really fits that brief. All you need is a few brown eyeshadows, I'm sure most of you have in your collection, to create this super versatile brown smokey eye. There aren't any pictures from the day with her eyes closed, but if you watch the highlights programme on iPlayer and pause it at 30:20 mins you can catch her blinking - this is the main reference I used, if you want to use an original image yourself.
Enjoy!
First, apply a warm brown eyeshadow across the lid. I've used an old Benefit eyeshadow in 'Soft Shoulder'

Then apply a dark brown shadow through the crease, focussing colour on the inner and outer corner to smoke it out (think halo-esque eye). I used another discontinued Benefit eyeshadow called 'fishnets'.
To deepen this brown, I went in with another dark brown shadow called 'Chocolate Biscuit' by Estée Lauder. I then did a thickish layer of brown pencil eyeliner. I used a new favourite by 3ina, their Automatic Eye Pencil in 304.

To finish off this look I added a thin layer of black liquid eyeliner on my top lid. I used Soap and Glory's SuperCat Liner. I wasn't going to use eyeliner, but the Elle article has a link to products inspired by the look, including a liquid eyeliner. Having interviewed her make-up artist it is likely that black eyeliner was used on her. The eye look was finished off with a curl of the lashes and some mascara, thicker on the top lashes than the bottom (the lack of product on the bottom of the eye keeps this look looking fresh, despite the darkness of the top lid). There's a high probability that falsies were used, probably individuals to thicken the outer corner, but I only own one pair of strip lashes and they would not have suited this look at all.

To finish off the rest of the face, start with an illuminating primer, followed by a lightweight glowy foundation. Then spot conceal the odd spot and darkness under the eyes (use concealer sparingly, no triangles here please). The main part of this look is to allow your skin to be seen, only a sheer amount of base make up should be used and with only a little concealer. For the cheeks, I used a bronze-pink colour, bringing this onto the forehead to warm up the face a little. I then added all the glow back to the skin (cause my skin is dry and dehydrated as), by patting some more of that illuminating primer into the skin and following with some liquid highlight on the cheeks. I then filled in my brows and gelled them into place. For the lips, I don't own the right shade of lipstick (I used to own one by Rimmel, but alas it now lives on a landfill site), so I mixed my go to nude with a little hot pink (hence the fact it's darker than Meghan's).
